What is Reiki?
• Reiki is an ancient healing method originating in Tibet and was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian monk, in the nineteenth century.
• Rei-ki is a Japanese word. “Rei” means cosmic or spiritual universal energy and “ki” means fundamental life force flowing and pulsating through all living things. Thus Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy.
• Reiki brings balance. When the body is in a state of balance, the body can heal itself. Reiki works on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.
• Reiki provides healing energy to all who seek it.
• The laying on of hands by the practitioner directs healing energy into the body. The practitioner acts as a channel for the Universal Life Energy to come through their hands. The practitioner does not use their own energy. When giving Reiki the practitioner does simultaneously receive the Reiki energy.
• Reiki touch is soft, light, and gentle. I can only have positive results as it is only for the highest good. Reiki balances all energies and is very relaxing.
• Reiki is not religious. One can practice any religion and benefit from Reiki. People from all faiths and religions are Reiki Practitioners.
What is a Reiki Session?
• Reiki rooms have a relaxing ambience and are very much like a massage room, including a Reiki table.
• You remain fully clothed during a Reiki session but you may like to wear loose clothing, take off your jewelry, and your shoes. Usually pillows are placed under your head and legs, and blankets may be provided for your comfort.
• A Reiki session is a quiet time when you receive the Reiki energy. Reiki comes through the practitioner’s hands. The practitioner will move their hands to different parts of the body in an organized fashion, either touching or hovering over the body, depending on the comfort level of the client.
• The client may feel a sensation of heat or coolness coming from the practitioner’s hand, this is perfectly normal.
• Reiki is very relaxing and many people drift off or fall asleep during a session.
• Each person experiences Reiki in their own special way. There is not right, wrong, good, or bad in anything you experience in a Reiki session. The most important thing is allow yourself to relax and enjoy the session. One of the greatest benefits is stress reduction and relaxation which triggers the body’s natural healing ability.
• Like massage you don’t have to rush off the table at the end of the session. You want to allow yourself time for additional relaxation.
